SocketDock
2011
Product Design, Industrial Design
This charger was developed after the WallDock. While the WallDock was good at what it did, with the introduction of the iPhone, we realized charging behavior had changed. Instead of leaving your device to charge locked to a dock, users liked to always have access to their phones. So, how do we give your phone a home and still give you access? We went back to the cord because it gives you freedom and created a new kind of cradle that is there when you need it and hidden when you don't!

This design, like the WallDock, fits any iDevice or any number of small handheld USB-powered gadgets including other smart phones. Keep your device off the counter and away from spills and off the floor and away from being a trip hazard. Take a phone call and keep charging.

  • JumpStart
We came up with this idea because we didn't like the solutions that were out there. The battery packs on the market were either bulky cases, strange gadgets that hung precariously off of the 30-pin connector, or unwieldy boxes with cables. There had to be a better way!

JumpStart attaches discretely to your Apple iDevice. Just plug in and charge up.

    Advantages:

    • Works with your case
    • Works with iPhone and iPods
    • Comfortable to hold while taking a call
    • Functions as a convenient stand

  • WallDock
This idea was an exercise in simplicity. For years, iPod docks consisted of 30-pin connectors buried in a large well with interchangeable inserts for your specific iDevice. It never looked finished. Inevitably you'd throw a growing number of inserts away or they'd clutter your drawer. This idea was developed so that no matter what iDevice you put on the dock, the dock itself will morph and become a custom home for your device. That home, we realized, should be soft and inviting and the material solution reflects that.

Another innovation embodied by this form and first created for the DLO HomeDock HD in 2007, is the rotating 30-pin. Invented to also combat useless inserts, this design allows an iDevice of any thickness from your iPod classic to your tiny nano fit securely on the dock and lean back on the wall if back support is needed. It is designed to shape shift and be truly adaptable no matter your iDevice.

  • Power Pebble
We were asked to create a small emergency charger that was different. It had to include cable management for you headphones, a stand, and a battery for charging your iDevice. It was important that it charge any of them so we had to make it highly adaptable. With no moving parts for ultimate simplicity, we designed this playful, easy to hold and pocketable power pack.

  • FlexAdapt
Flexibility and adaptability is a common theme with our designs. We try to provide the user with a hassle free experience because we're fed up with hassle as well! We wanted a cord that could do more than just sit there looking cluttered on a desk. Couldn't that cord do more? The answer is yes, yes it could and this one does. It provides a home for your iDevice again using our raised connector to fit any one you have. It bends and adapts to provide you with any inclination you're inclined to be it vertical or horizontal. We even provided a little hole so that you can secure it on ledge or shelf. Whatever your need, this little cable adapts.

  • Solar Charger
This soft-to-the-touch solar charger masquerades as a little book. It is meant to live with you in a subtle manner. Instead of having the overt outdoor aesthetic of many solar chargers, we chose an aesthetic that fits your everyday life a bit better. Though it may look pretty, it is no slouch on durability. We purposefully chose the silicone exterior to aid in shock protection. We then used the properties of this material to add cool features like the battery indicator and the soft hinge for folding the solar cells. When exposed to sunlight, a smart little light tells you that you are indeed charging. With some solar products it is tough to tell if you've got enough direct sunlight to charge efficiently so we've taken the guesswork out.

  • Desktop Speakers
These small iconic little speakers pack a lot of great sound in a small package. They were designed to replace aging but very successful speakers in the Philips lineup. We needed to add a bit of iconic style, reduce the size, and increase the quality of the materials. We deconstructed the speaker and started over with its elements. We're fans of music here at Distil and we've always loved the icon of the speaker cone. Why hide it? Magnify it! So we did. We shaped the speaker grill in to a great little little reminder of what is beneath it and we were delighted with the results.

For the SBA1200, we rethought the cable management and created a clean little object that nests to form a little ball that you can throw in your bag or store on your desk. It protects the speaker grill in traveling and declutters your cable mess. We provide all the cable you need for good stereo separation.

  • Hand Wrap
The Hand Wrap was designed for runners. User research showed that most people prefer to run with their phone in there hand. This allows for easier interaction with their device and is more comfortable then having it strapped to your arm. The Hand Wrap allows you to securely and comfortably hold your phone while you run. Soft Neoprene construction provides comfort and durability while the low profile Velcro easily adjust to ensure a secure fit.

  • HybridShell
The DLO HybridShell was one of the first iPod/iPhone cases to combine soft and hard materials in such a way. Inspired by a non-slip serving tray, this design is an example of both beauty and function. The silicon dots protect your phone on the inside by keeping it off of the hard plastic surface and on the outside they add shock protection and increased grip.
